Watershed Engineer
Reporting To:
Responsibilities:
· Design and implementation of various types of irrigation engineering structures based on requirements and experience in Natural Resource Management (NRM) and watershed areas.
· Support provincial coordinators with project planning, delivery, monitoring, and impact assessments.
· Technical surveying, cost estimation, and design and implementation of disaster mitigation, water management, and irrigation structures.
· Fully proficient in the design of irrigation engineering structures (culverts, super passages, intakes, siphons, aqueducts, canals), including technical surveys, cost estimation, and on-site implementation.
· Capable of checking and comprehensively understanding hydraulic and irrigation structural calculations.
· Competent in reviewing and thoroughly understanding civil design drawings and related calculations.
· Identification of appropriate areas for the construction of necessary irrigation structures.
· Preparation of action plans for the implementation of infrastructure projects.
· Development of selection criteria for watershed rehabilitation through stakeholder consultation, including community work plans and monitoring mechanisms.
· Organization and facilitation of participatory processes through community mobilization to reach consensus on watershed rehabilitation priorities.
· Conflict resolution to address disagreements arising from miscommunication or competing interests among stakeholders.
· Documentation and timely dissemination of decisions to relevant individuals and organizations.
· Provision of regular technical advice to watershed users for the protection and maintenance of constructed watershed masonry structures.
· Collaborative development and updating of guidelines for establishing watershed management committees.
· Regular monitoring of watershed masonry structures, including data collection, documentation, preparation of case studies, and reporting of achievements.
· Develop and implement a procurement plan in line with Afghanaid’s procedures.
· Incorporating team feedback and reporting on both outputs and outcomes.
· Document and share case studies, stories of change, and visual content (photos/videos) to support reporting and communication.
· In close coordination with the Head of Security, Provincial Operations Managers, and line manager, assess and respond to security risks in the project operating environment.
· Any other duties as and when assigned by the line manager, MD and/or Directorate.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The position holder must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Agriculture, Development, or other relevant field, with extensive professional experience in Agriculture, Forest.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years working experience in international humanitarian relief and/or development, especially in the area of project management in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation
